Before joining Culture Yard in 2017, Eden worked as an ESL teacher in Beijing. In high school she studied abroad in Harbin, China and later attended Rutgers University where she majored in Chinese and Spanish. She also received an MA from Rutgers in Spanish Translation and Interpreting.
Making the case for always following up on job applications, Eden was hired because she wrote Ilya a very enthusiastic email about working at the school. (She really was excited — after emailing Ilya, she sent him a WeChat message trying to set an interview for the same day.)
Contagious excitement for Chinese and calm authority are two qualities she brings to the school. Not to mention her knack for hair-cutting and salsa-dancing…It goes without saying that our team loves having her around.
In the office, Eden is eager to answer students’ questions about classes, Chinese, and more. She has been described as “the nicest person ever”. Eden speaks English, Chinese, and Spanish, and can read Manchu. In her free time, Eden enjoys reading, writing, and studying languages.
A few words from Eden
I could not ask for a better work environment. My coworkers feel more like family, and the teachers know the language inside and out.
